U Spy: Reader Spots a Bunch of Ford Prototypes Including New Ranger and Strange Mustang

Recently, CarScoop reader Anrev stumbled upon an unusually large gathering of Ford prototype models in Denver, Colorado, some of which were in full camouflage while others sported strange features that caught his, and ultimately, our attention as well.
Anrev explains what he saw and snapped with his camera:
"The Ford Test mule fleet is in Denver. Mustangs, Fusion, Fiesta, Ecosport with Japanese emblems, F150, Mondeo, Ranger and 2 other cars that are heavily padded and were covered. One was the size of the ecosport but more boxy. The other was the size of the Mustang but had a sharper nose and longer back roof line.
He continued: "The engineer that asked me to stop taking pics said they were in town for a few days. He started the Mustang while I was there and gave it a little gas. It may have SAID 5.0 on the side. But there's no way it was. Sounded like a V6."

Detroit Three Offer Four-Figure Price Incentives to Clear up Inventories

Fancy a brand-new 2013 Ford Taurus for US$5,000 less than list price? How about four grand off a 2012 Chrysler 200? As the year inexorably comes to its close, U.S. dealerships and, in some cases, manufacturers themselves, are offering price incentives in order to clear up stock.

According to a report from The Detroit News, last week a man in front of Matthews-Hargreaves Chevrolet in Royal Oak, Michigan waved a sign reading, “rebates up to $8,000”.

So, are Detroit carmakers engaging in a price war like in the days of yore that, eventually, led to ruining their business?

Surprise, Surprise…Meth Lab Signs on Classic Ford Truck were No Joke

If there was ever a facepalm moment, this would be it – no question. In the early morning hours of Friday, a Memphis police officer stopped an old Ford pickup truck on a routine patrol for driving with antique-issue license plates.

The reason why the driver was pulled over is that this type of plates are issued for automobiles that are considered classics or of historic value and allow owners to drive them only during weekends and special occasions. However, that wasn't the only violation that the cops discovered…

On Wednesday, August 29, TMC Fuel Injection System LLC filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia against Ford Motor Company, according to a report from Automotive News.

The Pennsylvania-based company is accusing Ford for infringing on one of its 2008 patents covering a fuel-injection system. TMC claims that Ford started selling vehicles powered by an EcoBoost engine that used the system after telling engineer Shou L. Hou, the inventor, that it had no interest in the technology.

Ford Mulling Aluminum Body for 2015 F-150 Pickup Truck Series, Save up to 700 Pounds

The next generation of the Ford F-150 pickup truck series expected in 2014 (as a 2015MY) may very well feature an aluminum-intensive body, The Wall Street Journal reported citing sources from within the Detroit-based automaker.

The reason why the Blue Oval is exploring the idea is to reduce the truck's weight and improve its fuel economy as the company ramps up its efforts to meet the Obama administration's new car mileage goal of 54.5mpg (4.3 lt/100km) on average by 2025.

Ford Quietly but Successfully Blocks China's JAC Efforts to Produce F-150 Pickup Truck Clone

Do you remember China's JAC 4R3 pickup truck clone of the Ford F-150 that made headlines earlier this year? For those who can't recall what happened last week, let alone in February, here's a bit of a refresher.

In January, JAC Motors presented a doppelganger of the Ford F-150 called the 4R3 to its domestic dealers, with plans to begin series production towards the end of the year. Naturally, photos were taken at the event and it didn't take long for the news to reach the other side of the Pacific.

At the time, JAC was planning to debut the 4R3 at last week's Auto China 2012 in Beijing, but as you may recall, that didn't happen. Why, you ask? Well, evidently, Ford did what it had to do to protect itself from JAC's unapologetic move to clone the F-150.

Speaking to Autoline's host John McElroy, Bill Coughlin, President and CEO of Ford Global Technologies and Intellectual Property Chief, said that the Blue Oval took all the necessary steps to prevent this from happening.

2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty Teased Prior to Next Friday's Debut

There's a new F-Series Super Duper Duty coming out next Friday, March 9, and to get us into the mood, Ford issued this teaser image of its pickup truck covered in a black sheet.

But that's about all Ford is willing to share with us so we don't know if there are actually of lot changes hiding behind the sheet or if the Blue Oval has simply touched up the truck here and there to keep it competitive.

A larger version of the opening picture can be found right after the break.

Ram Joins Chevy in Smacking Around the Ford F-150 with a New Commercial

You'll most likely remember Chevrolet's recent Super Bowl XLVI ad on the Silverado where it made fun of "Dave" who didn't make it to the rendezvous point with his friends after a post-apocalyptic catastrophe because he was driving a Ford F-150.

General Motors' move to take a swipe at the F-150 has found a follower as the Chrysler Group's Ram Trucks division has launched its own commercial poking some fun at the Ford pickup truck.

The ad starts by showing the Ram truck with a deep voice (doesn't it remind you of the garbled voices shouting "they took our jobs" in South Park?) in the background asking this question:

"What would happen if you were to take away 30-horsepower from a Ram 1500, remove 27 foot pounds of torque and subtract 40,000 miles from its powertrain limited warranty?" The same voice answers: "Well, you'd end up with a Ford F-150."

February Recalls: Toyota RAV4, Honda Accord, Crosstour and Ridgeline, Ford F-53/59 and Maserati GranTurismo

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced several recalls in the first week of February.

Starting with Toyota, the Japanese carmaker has issued a recall on a total of 427 RAV4 vehicles manufactured from November 24, 2011, through December 19, 2011, because the curtain shield airbags may not deploy. Toyota said it would check the RAV4s and if necessary, replace the assemblies. The safety recall is expected to begin in early March.

China's JAC Does it Again with Ford F-150 Pickup Truck Clone

We've seen this play before and before that and before that, but it never gets old: Chinese automakers replicating vehicles from western automakers. One brand that keeps popping up on our cloning radar is Jianghuai Automobile, more commonly known as JAC Motors.

It's latest accomplishment is the JAC 4R3 pickup truck that makes no attempt to hide the fact that it's a styling copy of the Ford F-150. Of course, as with other Chinese doppelgangers, the similarities begin and end with the appearance as it's too costly for automakers to extend the cloning to the mechanical hardware.

The 4R3 will reportedly make its debut at the Beijing Motor Show in April and will then go on sale in China where it will be offered with a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine pushing out 108-horsepower and 240Nm (177 lb-ft) of peak torque.
