Bummer; Audi Tells Us it Has No Plans to Offer the New RS6 Avant in the U.S. [w/Poll]

If you can afford it, the new Audi RS6 Avant is one of those cars that allows you to have a mid-life crisis without actually affecting the others around you, and by that, we mean you can get supercar-levels of performance with all the comfort amenities and more importantly, the space and practicality of a large family car.

Sadly, if you live in the States, this is one super wagon that you won't be able to park under your garage during this phase of your life.

In an email we received today from John Schilling, product communications manager for Audi North America, we were told that, the brand has "No plans on bringing the RS6 Avant here to the U.S.".

Audi's New RS6 Avant Brings the Thunder with 552HP and 190MPH – 305km/h [23 Photos]

It didn't take long for Audi to officially unveil its new super-station wagon model after the first images of the 2014 RS6 Avant started circulating around the internet earlier this afternoon.

With the RS6 Avant, it's mostly about the numbers, be that for performance or the sheer size of the car and especially, its humongous load area. We'll start with what will likely  pique your interest the most, and that's none other than the beast hiding behind the framed "quattro" logo on the front grille.

Out goes the previous RS6's 571hp (579PS) and 650Nm (479 lbf·ft) 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10, in comes a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 TFSI engine shared with other Audi's like the S8 as well as the Bentley Continental.

In this application, the V8 unit is said to produce 552hp (560PS) between 5,700 and 6,700 rpm and a constant 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque available between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm, though, as one of readers pointed out in our previous posting, Audi may very well be a tad modest about these numbers…

First Official Photos of All-New 2014 Audi RS6 Avant Powered by a 552HP Bi-Turbo V8

Ingolstadt's station wagon from hell is back with a vengeance. We're talking, of course, about the new generation of the Audi RS6 Avant, the first pictures and preliminary specifications of which hit the interwebs today.

From what we're told by our Russian comrades at Autowp, the new RS6 Avant waves goodbye to the previous model's 571hp (579PS) and 650Nm (479 lbf·ft) 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10 and gains Audi's brand new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 TFSI engine, which is said to deliver 552hp (560PS) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) in this application.

An eight-speed automatic drives all four wheels through Audi's quattro system with a sport differential. The Über station wagon is claimed to go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.9 seconds and top out at 304km/h (189mph), all while being able to fit up to 1,680 liters of goods.

Breaking Bad: Warranty Direct Lists the 10 Least Reliable Cars of the Last 15 Years

While we have no problem replacing everyday products such as DVD players and cell phones with new ones once they go bad, if the same thing happens to our car, it's a whole different story, and rightfully so, since automobiles are the second largest investment in most single family households.

Cars tend to be much more complex than most household appliance and face seriously more adverse conditions day-in, day-out. No matter how good the car is or how much carefully you maintain it, at some point, something is bound to go wrong.

Scoop: Next Audi RS6 Avant Rendered

Among the few station wagon models that have captured the imagination of gearheads is the Audi RS6 Avant series, especially in its most recent iteration built from 2006 to 2010 that used a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V10 engine related to the naturally-aspirated V10 found in the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo supercars.

Now, Audi is preparing a new generation of its RS6 Avant based on the station wagon body style of the latest A6 codenamed C7.

Spied: 2014 Audi RS6 Avant Caught on Film, Can You Tell from the Sound if it has a V8 or a V10 Turbo?

We have just snapped a prototype of the new 2014 Audi RS6 Avant testing in and around the Nürburgring track in Germany.

While you have no doubt seen the spy pictures of the RS6 Avant, the new video footage gives us the chance to see and more importantly, hear Audi's super-duper station wagon on the move.

It is widely believed, but not officially confirmed, that the new generation of the RS6 in both Avant and later on in sedan trims is powered by a boosted version of Audi's new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that takes the place of the previous model's 571bhp 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10.

Spy Shots: 2014 Audi RS6 Avant Shows up at the Nürburgring Wearing its Production Body

In January, we brought you a set of scoop photos showing a test mule of the next RS6 Avant based on the S6 Avant. Now, our eagle-eyed spy photographers have spotted the actual 2013 (or 2014MY) RS6 Avant prototype while lapping the famed Nürburgring track in Germany.

And why are we so confident that this is indeed an RS6 Avant test car, we hear some of you ask? Well, there are several telltale signs proving that this is an RS model, including the honeycomb-style front grille and brake air vents, the wider wheel arches and of course, the twin-tail pipes, all of which are signature traits of Audi's RS lineup.

If you take an even closer look at the pictures, you will also see the massive brake discs trying to hide behind the five-spoke alloy wheels.

Audi officials are keeping their cards close to their chest about the new RS6's drivetrain, but it is believed that the previous model's 571bhp 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10 could be replaced by an upgraded version of Audi's new 4.0-liter TSI that powers Audi's S6 and S7 (420HP) as well as the S8 (520HP) and the Bentley Continental models (500HP).

SPIED: New Audi RS6 Avant Prototype Shows up in Sweden

Like its BMW M5 compatriot, the RS6 Avant was one of those cars that allowed you to have a mid-life crisis without upsetting the family as it offered supercar-crushing levels of performance in a surprisingly practical estate package.

In its previous iteration, it sported a 5.0-litre bi-turbocharged V10 capable of delivering a maximum output of 580HP and peak torque of 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft).

The introduction of the new generation A6 Avant last year meant that there was a good chance we'd see the rebirth of the RS6. And true enough, our spy shooters captured a prototype model conducting winter tests in Sweden.

But what makes us believe that this is indeed an RS6 Avant prototype? For starters, Audi has already presented all versions of the A6 Avant including the V8-powered S6. Then there's the flared wheel arches that are a signature trait of the RS series. In addition, the test car also featured a modified front bumper and massive brake discs.
